Key Stage 1 - Cherry and Damson (Year 2) 2018 - 2019

Mrs Edwards

Miss Cernik

Mrs Smith

Welcome to Cherry and Damson's class page!

Mrs.Edwards, Miss Cernik, Mrs.Smith and Miss Pinder would like to welcome all year two, whether it's Damson or Cherry. We are certain we will have lots of fun continuing our topic 'Under the Sea'.

This term we are looking at the text 'Seahorse the Shyest Fish in the Sea' and which is a non-fiction text by Chris Butterworth and 'Flotsam' by David Wiesner. We are using these text to do some descriptive writing and to write information texts about underwater animals and their habitats. We will also be writing letters and learning about protecting our environment.

Please have a look at the attached Curriculum Map to see what your child will be learning about through this exciting topic.

Science

This half term we will be looking at all animals including humans. We will be learning about what it takes to stay healthy.

Water Bottles:

Please can you make sure that your child has a named water bottle in school with them everyday. As we are a healthy school we ask that it is water and not juice that your children bring in their water bottles.

Class days

P.E.

During P.E this term we will be practising athlectics and gymnastics. P.E Kits should include a white t- shirt, shorts and pumps. You may chose to include a P.E jumper, some jogging bottoms and trainers as the weather gets colder. Both Cherry and Damson class have P.E on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Homework:
Handed out on Monday
Handed back in Friday

Homework is not compulsary but is a times table sheet to help your child learn their tables as well as their weekly spellings. These can be completed and practised however you wish. You may request extra work from your child's class teacher if you feel your child would benefit from more support at home.

Reading:

Sharing books with your child and listening to them read regularly at home is essential to the development of their reading skills. Ideally, the children should read for 10 minutes at home every day. We will continue to listen to the children as much as possible in class; all children participate in guided reading sessions. If there are any parents or grandparents who are able to spend some time listening to children read it would be very much appreciated - the children really enjoy reading to other people. We will be running a little incentive in class, where the children will be able to stamp a sheet of paper for every book they read at home. Once they hit each milestone, they will receive a certificate and a little prize - so watch this space! Also we ave our whole school reward of frequent reader books awarded in assemblies.

Please remember your child will need to bring in their reading book and Reading Record to school each day.

Spellings:

Spellings go out at the start of the week and are tested on a Friday.
